MATERIAL SAFETY DATA SHEETS (MSDS)


WHAT INFORMATION IS ON A KITTER MSDS

SECTION 1: IDENTIFICATION

The name of the product and its synonyms. This section also contains the manufacturer’s name and address and a phone number to call for information in case of an emergency. The date the MSDS was prepared is also in this section. This is the date you compare to ensure you have the latest MSDS on file.

SECTION 2: COMPOSITION / INFORMATION ON INGREDIENTS

In this section you will find the chemical makeup of the product listed. This sections also lists the components that OSHA has determined to be Hazardous Components.

SECTION 3: HAZARD IDENTIFICATION

This section is the most important for a typical chemical worker. This section lists possible health hazards such as eye or skin irritation or if the product is harmful if swallowed. This section will also give you the warning signs of exposure, such as dizziness, nausea, headache or rashes.

SECTION 4: FIRST AID MEASURES

In this section you will find first aid procedures in the event you come in contact with the chemical. Eye Contact, Skin Contact, Ingestion & Inhalation are the most common exposure risks that are associated with chemicals. Follow the instructions in this section as the first measures to prevent serious injury.

SECTION 5: FIRE FIGHTING MEASURES

Here you’ll find the flash point, which is the minimum temperature at which the vapors from a liquid may ignite, the flammability limits, and which type of fire extinguisher to use. Flammability limits indicate the concentration of the substance, in the form of a gas or vapor, that's needed for it to ignite. Ignition is less likely below the lower limit or above the upper limit.

SECTION 6: ACCIDENTAL RELEASE MEASURES

This section gives you procedures to follow in case of a spill. Cleaning up a spill can be critical to the safety of fellow workers as well as yourself.

SECTION 7: HANDLING & STORAGE

This section advises you on the proper procedures that are required to handle and properly store the chemical. You will find Storage Temperatures, Storage Pressures and General information here.

SECTION 8: CONTROL MEASURES

This section notifies the user of what type of special equipment may be needed to safely handle and use the product.

Protective equipment, Ventilation, Respiratory Protection and Hand or Eye protection equipment will be listed here.

SECTION 9: PHYSICAL & CHEMICAL CHARACTERISTICS

This section will tell you the boiling and melting point, vapor pressure, vapor density and evaporation rate, solubility in water and specific gravity and normal appearance and odor.

SECTION 10: STABILITY & REACTIVE DATA

In this section you will find information on what could happen if this chemical were mixed with other chemicals, water or air. It will tell you if the substance is stable, what it should be kept away from and what situations to avoid.

AS A GENERAL RULE, YOU NEVER MIX ANY CHEMICAL WITH ANYTHING BUT WATER!!

SECTION 11: TOXICOLOGICAL INFORMATION

This section you will find information concerning toxicity test performed on the product. You will also find if any component of the product is known to be a carcinogen or suspected carcinogen by the National Toxicological Program, IARC monograms or OSHA.

SECTION 12: ECOLOGICAL INFORMATION

Here you will find the effects, if any, the product will have on the environment such as Aquatic Effects or Soil Effects.
 

SECTION 13: DISPOSAL CONSIDERATIONS

This section will give you information on the disposal methods required for this product. You will find out if you can dispose of in a normal manner or if a special condition exists that requires a special disposal method. .

SECTION 14: TRANSPORTATION INFORMATION

If it becomes necessary to transport the product from one location to another by a vehicle, you will find the information of proper procedures in this section. This section will give you the Proper Shipping Name, Hazard Class, Packing Group, UN Number & Limitations if any.

SECTION 15: REGULATORY INFORMATION

This section of the MSDS will give you information on what US Federal Regulations that the product complies with under OSHA's Hazard Communication Rule.

SECTION 16: OTHER INFORMATION

In this final section of the MSDS, you will find information that is not covered in any of the previous sections. This section may have information on the revision date and author of the MSDS as well as a disclaimer of liability.
